We begin in a world where 1 out of every 20 people is endowed with psychic powers. These espers are persecuted the world over. Enter the godlike Hyoubu Kyousuke, an incredibly powerful esper in charge of an organization that battles the anti-esper forces of the world. So, we have a very X-Men-esque setting, where Hyoubu plays a sort of Professor X crossed with Lelouch from Code Geass role, except far more powerful than both. Not the most original premise, but one that has been shown to work well when done right, and THE UNLIMITED takes full advantage of it. The characters' powers are unique, and make for some very fun scenes when combined with Hyoubu's tactics. There's also the secondary protagonist, Andy, who is an initiate into Hyoubu's organization. One might expect another somewhat clichéd type of story where Andy is the rather innocent main character who is brought on board with this group of superpowered people and slowly becomes a part of the family while also learning about his own powers, but this is actually rather skillfully subverted. And where other shows with scheming, intelligent main characters risk suffering from lapses in logic and plot holes, this is remedied by the sheer scope of Hyoubu's power; he's capable of almost anything, leaving little need for an explanation behind his consistent success. It's kind of a cop-out, but it's also kind of refreshing. The story's still not finished, but so far it's quite enjoyable. (by MetaKlonoa@MAL)
