The story begins when 30,000 Japanese gamers are trapped in the fantasy online game world Elder Tale. What was once a sword-and-sorcery world is now the real world. The main lead Shiroe attempts to survive with his old friend Naotsugu and the beautiful assassin Akatsuki.


This anime already looks more promising than SAO for a few reasons. An important reason being it doesnt take itself too seriously. The comedy is spread throughout the episode and makes for a very enjoyable watch while the characters deal with their troubling situation of being trapped inside of the Elder Tale world. Another strong suit is the mystery. Unlike SAO, the characters dont know what will happen when they die OR what their goal is inside of the game which makes for a much more interesting watch, we dont know how the story will end like we did with SAO from pretty much episode 1. Suprise suprise, the main character is ACTUALLY A GAMER. He actually looks like a gamer and fights with his head rather than being amazingly overpowered from the beginning of the series. Other than that, the other characters are hillarious and each add their own unique flavor to the series with their various jokes. Don't think of it as something like SAO, heck don't think of it as anything like SAO. They are greatly different, whether it be characters or Setup.
